Talem is Seeking Part-time Grant Associates


Talem Consulting, a consulting firm providing capacity-building services for nonprofits throughout the United States. We work with organizations ranging from social justice, advocacy, reproductive health, youth services, social services, as well as national organizations.

Talem is looking for Grant Associates to play a vital role in supporting mission-driven impact for its clients. Talem's grant writers research funding opportunities, complete foundation inquiries, draft grants and reports, and submit online applications to funders. In this role, you will gain experience working under experienced fundraisers and grant writers with opportunities for professional development.


Candidates must have at least 1-2 years of experience writing and submitting grants for nonprofits or equivalent experience. As a grant writer with Talem you will:

  • Attain a broader understanding of the organizational importance of grant writing

  • Gain insight and experience with the inner workings of an organization and become familiar with programming and initiatives

  • Strengthen the valuable skills of writing grants for nonprofits of many sizes and issue areas

  • Build experience in crafting budgets

  • Learn the best practices for program design and evaluation


You will be a go-getter, self-starter, big-picture, strategist with an eye for detail with a willingness to support Talem and its clients with your work. You will have the opportunity to shape narratives to support clients' fundraising needs and should have writing, research, communication, and basic administrative knowledge including MS Office. This is a fast-paced environment with consistent monthly deadlines. It provides meaningful, challenging work to quickly build your knowledge of the nonprofit sector. Responsibilities:

  • Smart prospecting and strategic grant writing that helps nonprofits reach their fundraising goals.

  • Research and identify prospective institutional donors for clients.

  • Identify and review research reports and articles relevant to clients’ program offerings.

  • Shape findings into a compelling case for supporting individual clients.

  • Ensure all research citations throughout grant materials are properly cited.

  • Collect and create grant attachments.

  • Assist in editing proposal templates and grant submissions.

  • Assist with administrative duties such as foundation inquiries or other grant-related requests.

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex topics.

  • Understanding of culturally responsive, justice, and equity-based language.

  • Write excellent, persuasive prose that is both concise and precise.

  • Take ownership of entire projects and demonstrate initiative to ensure a high-quality final product.

  • Value highly professional communication skills.

  • Be smart, organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet regular, monthly deadlines.

  • Invite and provide constructive feedback.


Commitment and Compensation:

Part-time: 8-10 hours/month with opportunity for growth.

A flexible work environment with the opportunity to work from home.

Monthly required Talem team meeting.

Bi-weekly phone check-ins with Talem staff.

The position is paid at $35/hour, with no benefits provided.


Our hiring process and timeline:

We will review applications on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

We will conduct short phone interviews in June-July and request a work sample relevant to the position.

We would like to have selected candidates start as soon as possible.
